Headwaters Relief Organization, “River of Hope” project volunteers returned and continued their re-building work in New Orleans’s Ninth Ward over the weekend before Thanksgiving. Forty volunteers including principles from two Minnesota based construction companies,Tech Builders, Incorporated and TDB Builders, Incorporated, worked to restore a community building to be used for a children’s resource center.
The Headwaters volunteers sheet rocked, laid flooring and painted a community building. They also painted the inside and outside of the building which houses the River of Hope Mental Health Resource Center. A number of volunteers gutted a church in the Lower Ninth Ward, which had had no work done to it since the storm, in preparation for re-building. Volunteer efforts also included helping an elderly man by installing sinks and cupboards making it possible for him to move back into his home.
A River of Hope was the founding project which resulted in the creation of Headwaters Relief Organization, which continues to respond to disasters and to serve people in need wherever they may be, including Iowa, Minnesota and the Twin Cities area, as well as Louisiana.
